The Truth about Local Veterans

What they want you to think: The city (La Crosse, WI) has forgotten about its veterans and what they stand for.  We could care less about what happens to them.

The Truth: The general feeling of the forgotten veterans stems from the debate of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse football stadium.  You probably haven't heard about it.  The name of the stadium is Veteran's Memorial Stadium.  The field was un-named, but was recently renamed "Roger Harring Field," after a legendary UW-L football coach.  This just pissed off the veterans.  Within days they sued the university for breaking a 1980's agreement to not change the name of the stadium.  See the problem yet?  The field is named Roger Harring Field, not the stadium.  The field and stadium are two separate entities.  But the veterans seem to think and I quote "they care about a winning coach rather than our freedom." I read that in an opinion page.  I thought, "What the fuck?"  It makes it sound like La Crosse has forgotten its veterans.  Now, I respect the fact that they gave so much in sweat and blood to give us the freedoms today, but stop being so damn demanding.  If the city forgot about them, would me and one of my best friends, Justin have watching the Memorial day parade, which honored our veterans?  Would the city care about doing a tribute at the Oak Grove Cemetery every year, in honor of local veterans? Would La Crosse keep open its several DAVs or its VFWS? No, they'd turn them into parking lots. We have not forgotten.  The veterans have forgotten what it means to be a veteran.  Being a veteran means taking pride in the city, not bickering about a petty item such as a field name.

Final Summation:  The veterans have forgotten what it means to be a veteran.  Being a veteran means taking pride in America, being honored to defend America's freedom, not trying to (in a nutshell) throw their weight around and complain about such petty things.
