The Truth about: College Drinking
What they want you to think: Colleges advocate drinking. They do absolutely nothing to stem the tide of college drinking. If you're a college student, you are a binge drinker.
The Truth: Oh come on! Do you honestly believe that heavy drinking is the college's fault? The day you move in, to they hand you a complementary case of beer? The college does everything it can to deter people from drinking, but its inevitable. Colleges have safe-rides home where a bus can pick up inebriated college-goers. They have programs set up to educate students about the dangers of over-drinking. Of course city officials are quick to blame college for the recent deaths supposedly caused by drinking (see the later article on the La Crosse river deaths). I attend college at Western Wisconsin Technical College, and I don't drink. I don't even see anyone that drinks heavily, although most do have occasional drinks (most smoke though...). The blame for drinking is the person. No one but that person decides to go drinking, sometimes too much. Its the fault of that person that drinks, no one else's. So all you people out there that think its the fault of college....SUCK IT!.
Final Summation: The fault of excessive drinking by college students is solely that of the student. College is not responsible. The bar/bartender is not responsible. If you become a college drunkard, blame no one but your self.
